Frontend Editing (Update)
October 18, 2009
We would like to give you a sneak preview of the upcoming new functionality in django CMS: Frontend editing
Checkout the screencast below:
Django CMS: Frontend editing from Django CMS on Vimeo.
Some features:
- Template change
- Jump directly to the specific admin pages
- Add/edit/delete plugins
- Move plugins within or to another placeholder
Frontend editing works with all plugins. We will put the beta on github after the 2.0 release. Official release of this new functionality will be with version 2.1.
So help us finish 2.0 as fast as possible :-).
Let us know what you think about the new functionality.
Thank you for your feedbacks and contributions!

Sweet !
We actually did this in our PHP framework, but making the html and css play nice with it was really hard !
I'm wondering how this works :D

Any timeline for when 2.0 or 2.1 will be out?

As soon as all the tagged issues are fixed http://github.com/digi604/django-cms-2.0/issues/labels/2..... Directly after that we will put the frontend editing as a beta on github.

Hi there !
This feature seems very interesting, and I'd like to test it.
I got a local site in my Mac for testing purpose, with a Django environment running.
Well, I'm new in python, new in Django, and new in Django CMS, so I'm losing some subtilities... :(
Here is what I've done :
– I first downloaded the package from http://github.com/digi604/django-cms-2.0/tree/frontedit/, but I doesn't see any difference with the Django CMS package I was yet testing
– so, I can't remember how, I found a package with the toolbar.py middleware, and thought that it was certainly linked to frontend editing ;) So, I downloaded this package
– I've lounched the setup.py install command , and after that my testing Django CMS site was still OK
– I've added this line in my middleware setting : 'cms.middleware.toolbar.ToolbarMiddleware',
– I've lounched the dev server, and I get this error when going to the front end of the site :
Caught an exception while rendering: cms/toolbar/add_plugins.html
So, I understand that my improvisation was not the right one ;)
Could some one give me some elements in how install this new feature ?
Thank you very much !
Yohan
