Releases: What’s New?

September saw several important releases aimed at improving performance and fixing bugs across the django CMS ecosystem.

  1. django CMS 3.11.8: The latest version brings back the improved page permission performance from django CMS 4 to version 3.11. Along with this, it resolves bugs like:

    • Preventing special characters from being escaped in page titles.
    • Stopping unwanted switches to edit mode when resizing windows. 2. Django Filer 3.2.3: This release tackled a compatibility issue with Python 3.8’s typing syntax, ensuring smoother performance for those on that version. 3. djangocms-text-ckeditor 5.1.6: Some quality fixes here include:

    • Solving the editor’s failure to register double-clicks.

    • Correcting CKEditor panel sizing.
    • Fixing duplicate "Link" and "Unlink" buttons in the default configuration for HTMLFields. 4. djangocms-text 0.3.0: This update introduces inline editing for frontend-editable models, making content creation faster and more intuitive for users. 5. djangocms-frontend 1.3.4: A small but essential update, this version now pins its django-entangled dependency, adding more stability.

Contributions: The Heart of Our Community

The community’s contributions in September have been nothing short of incredible. We’ve merged a total of 49 pull requests, spread across multiple key projects:

  • 20 PRs merged into django CMS core.
  • 10 PRs into Django Filer.
  • 3 PRs each into djangocms-text and djangocms-versioning.

A Shoutout to Our Active Contributors!

We couldn’t have made these strides without the dedication of our most active contributors this month:

  • @Mario
  • @Mark Walker
  • @Dmytro Litvinov
  • @Josh Yu

Each of these developers contributed more than one pull request, and their commitment is deeply appreciated!

Looking Ahead: What’s Next?

As we look to the future, there’s something big on the horizon: the upcoming release of djangocms-frontend 2.0. This version will make it easier than ever for designers and developers to create custom components. You’ll be able to turn your HTML design snippets into django CMS plugins and reusable components for Django templates with just a single declarative class. Stay tuned for more updates—this release promises to unlock new creative possibilities!

September has been a busy and productive month for the django CMS community, and we’re excited to see what the next few months bring. Whether you’re a seasoned contributor or a newcomer, your participation and support are what fuel the success of django CMS. Let’s keep building together!

Release

django CMS 5.1 is here: easier setup, flexible deployments, and a fresh editing experience

This release reduces friction across the whole project lifecycle: creating a new project, adding django CMS to an existing Django application, configuring larger deployments, controlling which plugins editors can use, and working with the CMS every day.

Release

django CMS 5.0.9 released: security, accessibility, and stability improvements

This release addresses three medium-severity security vulnerabilities and includes improvements to accessibility, Django compatibility, permissions, Content Security Policy support, and general editor stability.
